NASA DimSun Mission
28 July 2026 | ZEROGeoengineering.com | NASA’s “DimSun” mission Concept of Operations (ConOps) to block sunlight with a dust cloud is shown in the following articles.
The hypothetical premise for using Earth’s sky as an open air laboratory is based upon unproven assertions regarding global climate temperatures and CO2 emissions, that are widely promoted by the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). [1][2] Other agencies with a history of promoting SRM atmospheric experimentation, the US Global Change Research Program (USGCRP) [3][4] and the National Academy of Sciences [5][6], are cited as authoritative sources in the paper below.
S. Bandyopadhyay et al., “Dimming the Sun (DimSun) using Controllable Swarm of Smallbody Regolith Particles,” 2025 IEEE Aerospace Conference, Big Sky, MT, USA, 2025, pp. 1-15, doi: 10.1109/AERO63441.2025.11068752.

“This paper focuses on space-based SRM techniques, which aim to create space-based solar occulters or reflectors to reduce incident solar insolation.”

“Note that adding or removing regolith particles from the dust cloud is straightforward, which enables us to precisely control the level of solar insolation reduction caused by the dust cloud.”

Ion Propulsion
The primary parts of an ion propulsion system are the ion thruster, power processing unit (PPU), propellant management system (PMS), and digital control and interface unit (DCIU).

“NASA plans to take the NEXT technology to higher power and thrust-to-power so that it can be used for a broad range of commercial, NASA, and defense applications. ”
