17 March 2026 | ZEROGeoengineering.com | The Department of Defense (DOD) awarded the MITRE Corporation a ten-year sole-source contract for BILLIONS of dollars in support of the Air Force as the administrator of the National Security Engineering Center (NSEC). According to MITRE’s website, “NSEC partners with military and intelligence organizations to conduct R&D efforts aimed at addressing national security challenges. It is one of the six federally funded research and development centers operated by MITRE.” Per DHS website, the MITRE Corporation was selected in 2009 to operate the Homeland Security Systems Engineering and Development Institute (HSSEDI) Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC). Lack of meaningful public oversight over these programs raises important questions regarding engineering activities and accountability.
