FCC Approves Satellite Space Mirror Testing
21 July 2026 | ZEROGeoengineering.com | A “sunlight on demand” experiment involving a giant satellite space mirror highlights the lack of regulatory frameworks to protect our atmosphere and all biological life from pollution hazards. The giant mirror scheme was approved by the United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC). FCC is a captured agency that holds regulatory jurisdiction over Radiofrequency Microwave (RF/MW) Radiation from wireless technologies, including satellites. RF/MW Radiation is uninsurable pollution emitted by satellites and other weather monitoring and experimentation infrastructures such as NEXRAD, HAARP systems, telecommunications, and interoperable devices. These polluting RF/MW Radiation emissions are not neutral. The “research” testing of a single satellite is itself a pollution source. Rocket launches that lift satellites are also a colossal generator of harmful pollution that are not yet subject to any meaningful regulations to protect people and nature. This is about more than just one satellite — it’s about the synergistic impacts of all the satellites together. Now is the time to begin addressing satellite pollution and ending interference with Earth’s weather. Important related materials below.
FCC argues that the approval is only about testing one satellite. At the same time, “Reflect Orbital,” the company approved in FCC’s order, is aiming to add 50,000 more satellites. Elon Musk has been talking about adding a million orbital AI data centers.
The Satellitemap.space photo below shows currently there are 10,798 satellites. [July 21, 2026 at 10:30 pm Eastern]

FCC Order and Authorization:
“Scope of Grant: Authority to deploy and operate a space station using radio frequencies in the S-, X-, and UHF- bands.”

FCC dismisses protection of the environment and requirements under NEPA (National Environmental Policy Act):

“…we find commenters’ allegations related to the operation of a solar reflector to be beyond the scope of the Commission’s NEPA Obligations.”

The Phys.org article below states: “There are many problems with this proposal, including impacts these satellites will have on human health and safety, as well as on astronomy and the low-Earth environment.”
