Aerosol remote sensing over the next 20 years
25 May 2026 | ZEROGeoengineering.com | The article below predicts a data volume explosion in aerosol remote sensing by 2043. Authors speculate that the rise of advanced active sensors, massive data growth, machine-learning-infused algorithms, and assimilation‑driven “cyborg” products for aerosol remote sensing — via satellite and ground-based networks, will make current capabilities look like “a primitive data desert.” Assimilation systems will blend in-situ aircraft data, ground networks, passive and active satellite data, trace gas + aerosol + surface properties for unified multi‑sensor integration and gap-free observation (surveillance).
Tennessee, Florida, and Louisiana’s weather modification laws are an important start, but have major gaps, focusing only on activities “with the express purpose” of altering temperature, weather, climate, or the intensity of sunlight. These laws are missing sensor capabilities, polluting ground-based infrastructures, and satellite aspects of “the global aerosol system.”
Continuous surveillance and mass collecting of data raises important ethical considerations about this technology regarding privacy, civil liberties, environment, health freedom, and cognitive liberty.
