Sulfur Dioxide (SO2) Effects on Health
"Sulfur dioxide (SO2) is a colorless, reactive air pollutant with a strong odor. This gas can be a threat to human health, animal health, and plant life."- NPS
Overview
"Sulfur dioxide (SO₂) is a colorless gas with a characteristic, irritating, pungent odor. Exposure to sulfur dioxide may cause irritation to the eyes, nose, and throat. Symptoms include: nasal mucus, choking, cough, and reflex bronchi constriction, and when liquid: frostbite Workers may be harmed from exposure to sulfur dioxide." -CDC_NIOSH
Harmful Effects Of Sulfur Dioxide (SO2)
"-Short-term exposures to SO2 can harm the human respiratory system and make breathing difficult. -Small particles may penetrate deeply into the lungs and in sufficient quantity can contribute to health problems. -SO2 and other sulfur oxides can contribute to acid rain which can harm sensitive ecosystems." -EPA
